The Battle of Stalingrad: A Failed Invasion
Hitler had already broken his peace agreement with the Soviet Union with Operation Barbarossa. In August 1942, the German forces with aid journeyed into Soviet Territory to take the city of Stalingrad. Though warning ahead of time allowed most Russian assets to be shipped away, the German forces were soon upon the city. A bloody, drawn out battle ensued, This battle is recognized as one of the worst in World War 2, and in the general history of war. Over one million Soviet Soldiers died, and around four hundred thousand civilians were killed.
